Apart from your e-mail address remaining the same, think of switching over to the new Gmail system as “starting from scratch.” E-mails in your Old Webmail account, along with any customizations you made, will not transfer over. Please read below for a list of things you should expect once the new system is live. Remember to also read the “Frequently Asked Questions” section for answers to a list of questions we have received so far.
- Beginning January 28, 2008, all new e-mail messages will arrive in your Gmail account. Any messages prior to January 28, 2008 will arrive in your old Webmail account (webmail.fiu.edu).
- Any customizations to your Webmail account (such as contact lists, forwarding addresses, automatic replies, etc.) will not carry over to the Gmail system. You will have to make these changes on the new system if you wish to keep them.
- You will have access to the old Webmail system until April 30, 2008. This will allow you to forward any messages you would like to keep over to your new Gmail account. After April 30, 2008, you will no longer have access to your old Webmail account.
- Your webmail password will not carry over to the Gmail system. When you login to panthermail.fiu.edu your default password will be your birthdate in mmddyyyy format. Your Webmail password will not change.
