Cabling Design - The UTS Planning and Design Services (PDS) team is responsible for the design, planning and implementation of the University's telecommunications infrastructure. This infrastructure includes voice, data, and cable television systems. PDS provides technical specifications, consulting, infrastructure documentation, project design and management for all FIU Campuses and sites. The PDS team is also responsible for ensuring that a suitable infrastructure is built into all new building construction on all FIU campuses and sites. To request planning and design services, please contact the UTS Support Center. Solix - The Solix 4 and Solix 5 servers provide application services such as SPSS™, SAS™ and S Plus™ accessed via telnet sessions (a way of signing on to a machine through a TCP/IP connection) at 'solix.fiu.edu'. When users log onto the servers, they are routed to either SOLIX 4 or SOLIX 5 automatically based on a 'Round Robin' setup, which is handled by a DNS Server. Solix 4 and Solix 5 offer a host of user applications such as: Ansys, Maplesoft, Mathematica, Minitab, SAS, SPSS, and S-Plus. Solix 3 is an application server that is not linked with the other SOLIX machines and is used as a RealServer. This is a specialized server that handles streaming audio and video for multimedia purposes. Please note, failing to comply with the UTS Code of Computing Practice may result in the inactivation of computing privileges. LISTSERV – LISTSERV is the electronic mailing list management software used at FIU. The purpose of LISTSERV is to disseminate a single e-mail message simultaneously to a group of people (subscribers). This program allows list owners to manage their mailing lists (add/remove subscribers, approve moderated messages, etc.) from an easy to use web interface. Click here for instructions for using LISTSERV. For a list of frequently asked question visit LISTSERV FAQS. To access a LISTSERV mailing list visit LISTSERV.fiu.edu. To create a LISTSERV mailing list, please submit an On-line Service Request or contact the UTS Support Center at 305.348.2284.
